About MyHEAPGuide

An independent guide to HEAP energy assistance, built city by city with real agency contacts — not a government website.

What This Site Is

MyHEAPGuide is an independent, privately-run resource for people trying to figure out whether they qualify for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and exactly who to call in their city. We are not a government agency, and we are not affiliated with Ohio JFS, New York OTDA, or any county Department of Social Services.

Every city guide links directly to the real, official local agency that processes HEAP applications, so you can always verify what you read here and apply through the correct official channel.

How We Research Each City Guide

Every guide on this site is built from primary sources: official state program pages (energyhelp.ohio.gov, otda.ny.gov), the specific county or Community Action Agency’s own website, and, where available, current federal poverty guidelines published by HHS. Phone numbers and addresses are cross-checked against the agency’s own site rather than copied from other guides.

Income limits and benefit ranges are recalculated each program year — Ohio’s changes every July, New York’s typically every November. If you find something that looks out of date, please let us know.

The Eligibility Calculator

The calculator on every page runs entirely in your browser. It doesn’t ask for your name, Social Security number, or any identifying information, and nothing you enter is sent to us or stored anywhere. It’s meant to give you a fast, educational estimate — not an official determination, which only your local agency can provide.

Questions or Corrections?

If a phone number has changed, an agency has moved, or a program detail is outdated, we want to fix it. Contact us and we’ll update the page.
